A police review into the investigation of the death of a 29-year-old Indigenous woman who died after falling 10 storeys in a hotel laundry chute is complete.

Regina police released the review into the death of Nadine Machiskinic Thursday afternoon.

Machiskinic’s body was found at the bottom of a laundry chute in the Delta Hotel in Regina in January 2015 and she later died in hospital.

The cause of death was initially misdiagnosed as a drug overdose and police were not notified until two days after Machiskinic actually died.

A coroner’s inquest ruled Machiskinic’s death as undetermined.

Regina police requested the review after facing criticism over how the investigation was handled.

The Saskatchewan RCMP review contains 14 recommendations on how similar investigations could be improved.
