Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation is under a state of emergency after the community’s water treatment facility caught fire Monday night.

Area residents were evacuated over health fears from toxic smoke.

Federal officials are at the First Nation today discussing solutions with leaders there about providing a safe and reliable water source over the short and long term.

The department says technicians are also on site determining what supports are needed and next steps in restoring water service.

Water is being outsourced from Regina, as the community store ran out shortly. The extent of the damage or when repairs could begin is unknown.
