A 37-year-old man faces various charges after a more than 250-kilometre police pursuit of a vehicle in northern Saskatchewan on Wednesday.

The chase began around 8:20 p.m. on Hwy 2, about 25 kilometres north of Waskesiu, and ended on Hwy 165, a few kilometres east of the Hwy 914 junction south of Pinehouse.

Police had first tried to stop the vehicle with a roadblock on Hwy 2 at Rabbit Creek but the driver turned off onto Hwy 165 and headed east.

RCMP needed to use a spike belt to stop the driver.

During a search, police seized two ounces of crack cocaine from the vehicle.

Roderick Gardiner is charged with driving while disqualified, operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

He is due to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court Friday.
