La Ronge will be the site of a Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League game this weekend when the Beardy’s Blackhawks take on the Saskatoon Contacts at the JRMCC.

It should certainly feel like a home game for three members of the Blackhawks who call La Ronge home. Forwards Cobe Delaney and Chase Vancoughnett-Lafleur, as well as defenceman Parker Layton play for Beardy’s.

“It’s nice that they can get back up there in front of their family and friends – and show part of the group that they are associated with this year,” said Beardy’s Blackhawks Head Coach Dale Grayston.

Coming into the weekend, the Blackhawks sit in eighth in the overall standings with 32 points, while the Saskatoon Contacts are fifth with 35 points.

“This will be an important weekend for both teams,” said Grayston. “You’ve got to beat these teams that are ahead of you.”

Saturday’s game from the JRMCC gets underway at 2:30 p.m. The Blackhawks will finish their weekend in Saskatoon Sunday when they face the Contacts again.

Meanwhile, the JRMCC will host a provincial bantam B game Sunday. The La Ronge Ice Wolves tangle with the Nipawin Hawks in game one of a two-game series. The puck is slated to drop at 4 p.m.
