La Ronge’s Michio Green will be going for gold in February when he competes at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, AB.
Green is 19 years old and will be representing Saskatchewan in biathlon and cross-country skiing events.
“It’s something that I’ve been really looking forward to, to be a part of an event, where it’s not just biathlon, it’s all the other winter sports and all of the other provinces come together for one big event,” said Green.
“To be a part of not only the biathlon team, but also the cross-country team — I’ll be there for two weeks and it’s a really grand experience I feel. You get to talk with a lot of people and meet a lot of new friends.”
Green is currently studying kinesiology at the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus. He is expecting the competition level to be quite stiff in Red Deer.
“Certain provinces have quite strong teams,” said Green. “Alberta has most likely the strongest team, since they have Canmore and the Nordic Centre there, but also Ontario and Quebec are also strong.”
To support Green, you can make a donation through his crowdfunding campaign online.
