The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations says it is standing in unison with a B.C. First Nation that is preventing pipeline workers from accessing a local road.

Members of the Wet’suwet’en First Nation have set up a blockade to prevent Coast GasLink workers from accessing a road near Houston, B.C.

The First Nation says the gas pipeline encroaches on traditional territory.

However, on Monday the RCMP begin moving to enforce a court injunction that grants the workers access.

In a released statement, FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron says, “The RCMP involvement is a failure of the principles of reconciliation. Once again, the government is criminalizing First Nations people who are standing up for their lands, their rights and their jurisdiction.”

The area of dispute is located about 300 kilometres west of Prince George.

A number of protests in support of the Wet’suwet’en were planned around the country on Tuesday
