The future of Patterson Park in downtown La Ronge was the topic of a public meeting last night at the Kikinahk Friendship Centre.

The park located along La Ronge Avenue already has features like a children’s playground and walking trail.

Town Planner Abby Besharah says an online survey done this summer brought forward a number of issues and ideas.

She says one of them is a perceived safety risk in the park.

Another is the idea of developing a public meeting area.

“An amphitheatre or bandstand, people here are interested in creating a space for community to gather, so I think that is one of the themes we are going to focus on moving forward”.

Beshara says input from Indigenous people, Air Ronge and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band will be part of any future plans.

“I think there is a great opportunity for reconciliation, we are not just a municipality , we are an Indigenous community as well”.

Beshara says the town is in the early stages of putting together a 25-year plan for the park.

So far there is no time line for when the new features could be implemented.
