The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is disputing claims of financial mismanagement made by former vice-chief Kim Jonathan.

In media statements, Jonathan claims the organization has been under investigation by Saskatoon police for alleged financial irregularities over the past 11 months.

The FSIN says it has no knowledge of such an investigation and attempts to contact police have not been successful.

It also says Jonathan never brought up any concerns of financial impropriety during her tenure there.

Furthermore, a communique says the organization has a surplus of over $700,000 and received an unqualified audit from Meyers, Norris and Penny for this fiscal year.

The communique also says Jonathan is being internally investigated for breach of conduct and financial polices.

Jonathan and the FSIN administration have been at odds ever since the election race for chief and first vice-chief began about a month ago.

Jonathan says the position of interim chief should have fallen to her during the election period but the FSIN disagreed and instead appointed fourth vice-chief Heather Bear to the position.

However, after consultation with the Indian Government Commission, this decision itself was rescinded and it was decided no one would serve as interim chief during the election period.
