The Muskeg Lake Cree Nation and City of Saskatoon were celebrating the 30th anniversary of the first commercial urban reserve in Canada Thursday.

The 35 acres of reserve land is located on the northeast side of the city and home to the McKnight Commercial Centre.

Muskeg Lake signed the memorandum of understanding to create the urban reserve with all three levels of government in 1988.

The urban reserve is home to a number of businesses including the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority, Muskeg Property Management and CreeWay Gas.

Urban reserves in Canada have grown significantly since this time.

SIGA is currently expanding its operations on the urban reserve into a new roughly 50,000 square foot building.
