After a long layoff, the La Ronge Ice Wolves got back into the swing of things on Sunday in Warman, but it did not go their way, as they dropped a 6-3 decision to the Battlefords North Stars.

“We came out pretty flat,” said Ice Wolves Assistant Coach Gaelan Patterson. “I like the way the guys responded at least, we were only down by two goals there. They responded well in the second — have to find a way to get the fire under them in the first period.”

Kolby Johnson scored his first goal as a La Ronge Ice Wolf, while Mitch Zambon and Ethan King also tallied for La Ronge. It was King’s first goal in the SJHL.

“It’s a pretty exciting feeling getting the first one out of the way,” said King.

Jordan Frey made his second straight start for the Ice Wolves. The Saskatoon product finished with 32 saves in a losing cause.

Jake Davidson earned the win for the North Stars. Owen Lamb led the way for the North Stars with two goals, while Austin Becker, Braydon Buziak, Matthias Urbanski and Elijah Loon-Stewardson added singles.

With the loss, the La Ronge slipped to 0-3. The Ice Wolves will look for their first win of the season on Monday afternoon when they face the Weyburn Red Wings in Warman. You can catch it live on MBC, the broadcast will begin around 4 p.m. with Braden Malsbury.
