The case of a float plane missing in northern Saskatchewan since 1959 has been solved.

Officials with the MInistry of Environment say the aircraft was found in Peter Pond Lake on July 31st.

The single-engine Cessna carrying two men had been doing survey work when it went missing on August 20th, 1959.

The two people on board were a contract pilot and a conservation officer.

The Ministry also says because of the depth of the wreckage and poor visibility, it does not have the expertise to undertake an aircraft recovery operation.

In a release the Ministry is also conveying sympathy to the family and descendants, and hopes for a successful conclusion to this effort.

A spokesperson for the RCMP says it’s dive team has not been involved in the search because of treacherous conditions in the area.
