Pelican Lake First Nation is under a boil water advisory after it was discovered that the community’s main water treatment plant was experiencing low chlorine in the drinking water supply.

The advisory, which was issued Sunday, impacts all homes and community buildings connected to the drinking waterlines in the north and south core subdivisions and water trucks.

Federal officials say the advisory will remain until the cause of the low chlorine is identified, repairs are complete and water testing maintains it is free of bacterial contamination.

Residents are advised to boil water for one minute and let it cool prior to using for brushing teeth, preparing food and making ice cubes.
