A by-election for the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation’s urban councillor position in Prince Albert scheduled for Tuesday has been put on hold until further notice.

A notice from PBCN head electoral officer Randy Clarke says the band and its elections office have been served with a Federal Court order that prohibits the vote from happening until a court hearing.

Clarke says the band’s lawyer has advised them not to proceed with the by-election that was scheduled to take place tomorrow.

According to Clarke, the Federal Court order also states that Warren McCallum be re-instated as PBCN’s urban councillor until the outcome of the upcoming hearing has been decided.

A date for the hearing has not been set.

McCallum won the vote earlier this year, but a July 24 by-election was scheduled after an appeal.

McCallum was set to face Clarisse Lecoq and Darryl McCallum in Tuesday’s voting before it was put on hold.
