A number of northern and First Nations communities will be receiving upgraded wireless service as part of a new $4.6 million investment by SaskTel.

These communities include Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation, George Gordon First Nation, Ile-a-la Crosse, Onion Lake Cree Nation, Pinehouse, Sandy Bay and Wollaston Lake.

The investment will increase the LTE data capacity of 37 towers by up to 100 per cent.

This will significantly decrease network congestion and slowdowns in service.

The upgrades are expected to be completed by March 2019.

The network improvements are part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest $301 million of capital by the end of 2019 and $1.4 billion over the next five years.
