About 250 people took in a three-day meeting in the northwest hosted by Métis Nation – Saskatchewan this past weekend.

The regional meeting was held from Friday until Sunday at the South Bay War Veterans Park between Beauval and Ile-a-la-Crosse.

Northern Area Region Three Director Mervin “Tex” Bouvier says one of the major topics of discussion was the proposed framework agreement between the MN-S and the federal government.

“People have to understand that the framework is just a skeleton, which we see moving forward,” he says. “Once the framework is signed, there are more areas that need to be covered like education.”

Bouvier says delegates also discussed section 35 land rights in the framework agreement and the Ile-a-la-Crosse boarding school.

He says there will be an elders meeting in Pinehouse later this month to discuss the framework agreement and the MN-S is hoping to have the agreement formally signed with the federal government at Back to Batoche Days in July.

Bouvier also says there is a forum tentatively scheduled for August in Ile-a-la-Crosse for survivors of the boarding school.
