A Big River First Nation man is facing several charges after an alleged altercation with police officers.

Big River RCMP say early Friday morning officers attempted to stop a vehicle on the reserve, which then fled from the officers.

The officers then confronted the man at a home who then allegedly attempted to assault one of the officers with a weapon.

Police were eventually able to subdue the man with help from police dog services and the nearby detachments of Shellbrook and Spiritwood.

41-year-old Lonny Lachance, of Big River First Nation, now faces several charges.

They include assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting arrest, and driving while suspended.

Lachance is due in court on Monday.
