An Indigenous leader will be recognized for his many years of work with an honourary degree on Thursday.

Joseph Quewezance will be awarded the degree at the University of Saskatchewan’s spring convocation, which is currently underway in Saskatoon.

Quewezance is a former chief of the Saskatoon Tribal Council, spending three terms leading the organization.

His supporters say he laid the foundation for many key partnerships for the STC.

Since then, Quewezance continues in his role as an Indigenous elder and currently acts as an advisor to the Saskatoon Police Service.

In 2015, the former STC chief was given as ceremonial badge for his role advising the police chief.

Currently, nearly 3,000 Aboriginal people are attending the U of S. There’s 384 graduating during this year’s spring convocation.
