Lac La Ronge Indian Band member Alex Bell is making a name for himself in Saskatchewan hockey circles.

The 16-year-old goaltender spent this past season with the Northeast Wolfpack Midget AA club. His team won a league championship, as well as a provincial title.

“All of us were really close with one another, it was like a family,” said Bell. “If one of us were feeling down, it was up to other 18 — 19 guys to pick that guy back up.”

Since Bell is from La Ronge, he’s auto-protected by the SJHL’s La Ronge Ice Wolves. Bell says it is a goal of his to play for his hometown team in the future.

“Obviously, I’m pushing myself to become better, hopefully crack the team in the next couple of years and accomplish that goal,” said Bell.

La Ronge Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen is pleased with Bell’s development and commitment to getting better.

“As a local kid here, I know he spends a lot of time out at the JRMCC working with Travis Hegland on his strength and flexibility,” said Vossen. “He had a growth spurt quite quick and now he’s just growing into his body and developing those muscles.”

Bell plans to play for the Northeast Wolfpack Midget AA team this upcoming season. It will be his last year of midget eligibility. Following that, he will be one step closer to achieving his dream of suiting up for the club he has watched since he was a kid.
