Lawyers representing the La Loche school shooter have filed an appeal of his sentence.

In January 2016, the now twenty-year-old shooter fatally shot four people in a school and a house in the northern community.

After years in the court process, the shooter was sentenced to life in prison in early May.

This came after a provincial judge decided he should be tried as an adult as he was a minor when the crimes were committed.

According to the judge’s decision, he was to spend life behind bars with parole eligibility after ten years.

Saskatchewan Courts now say his lawyers have filed for an appeal of that decision.

No word yet on when these hearings may happen.

Officials say it is unlikely to happen before the Court of Appeals fall sitting.
