A Saskatchewan First Nation and band administrator has been fined for an environmental violation.

The Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation and band administrator, Arnold Moosomin, were sentenced in North Battleford provincial court.

The decision was handed down last Thursday.

The court fined the band $100,000 and Moosomin $5,000. The funds will be directed to the Environmental Damages Fund.

Charges were laid after a 2014 investigation into storage tank systems for petroleum products.

On October 6, 2015, charges were laid under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act after it was determined that the First Nation and band administrator failed to comply with all of the terms of the order.

The defendants were convicted following a trial.
