RCMP in the Prince Albert and Wakaw area are advising residents not to use firearms in deterring break and enters.
This after an early morning incident Wednesday on a rural property north of St. Louis.
The property owner reported to police that he found a male on his property, inside one of his buildings.
The owner retrieved a firearm and fired a shot into the air, scaring off the suspect.
The male was not located and there were no injuries.
Police say introducing a firearm into a dangerous situation could make it worse.
They advise people to ensure their own safety first and then call RCMP with as much information as possible.
