Spiritwood RCMP say the RCMP will undertake a complete review of the circumstances of how a Witchekan Lake First Nation man died.

Mounties say emergency personnel and police responded to a complaint of a distraught adult male at a home on the First Nation on April 29.

When officers and the EMS arrived at the scene, the man was suffering from serious injuries, which police say appear to be self-inflicted.

The man was pronounced dead a short time later.

The RCMP says since Mounties were present at the time of the death, the incident must be reviewed.

An independent observer from the Ministry of Justice is being brought in to oversee the investigation and ensure transparency.

The name of the deceased is not being released.
