The National Aboriginal Hockey Championships kick off on Sunday in Nova Scotia on the Membertou First Nation.

Saskatchewan will be represented by Lac La Ronge Indian Band member Cassidy Carlson.

“I think if we put it all on the line, give everything we have – then we’ll come out on top,” said Carlson.

Carlson plays defence and spent the 2017-18 campaign with the Battlefords Sharks in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League. In 24 games with the Sharks, Carlson had 10 points.  She’s anticipating the competition level to be stiff at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.

“I expect it to be tough – definitely, just tough all around,” said Carlson. “But, I think that it should be good, a good experience as well.”

Carlson says this is her last year of competitive hockey.

Saskatchewan is set to open the tournament against New Brunswick on Monday. Meantime, the Saskatchewan male team kicks things off on Sunday versus New Brunswick.
