Police were called to a Regina courtroom Friday, to help calm a tense situation following the reading of a verdict.
The jury found Tia Pinacie-Littlechief not guilty of second-degree murder.
She was on trial for the stabbing death of Justin Crowe in October 2015 on the Piapot First Nation. Reports indicate that the brother and mother of Crowe charged at Pinacie-Littlechief during the reading of the verdict.
They were both escorted from the courtroom, and police were called.
The jury began its deliberations just before noon Thursday.
During closing arguments, the defence claimed the death was not murder, but an act of self-defence, alleging Crowe was violent.
Yet the Crown stated the evidence did not support Pinacie-Littlechief’s story, saying Crowe did not assault his cousin.
