The Lawrence Weenie Cup Indigenous hockey tournament came to a close in North Battleford on Sunday with the finals.

In the senior recreation finale, the Red Pheasant Rebels got past the Mistawasis Warriors 4-3 in overtime to claim first place. Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation came in third. Meantime, Myles Baptiste of the Red Pheasant Rebels earned tournament MVP honours.

In legends action, Beardy’s came out on top by beating the Sandy Lake Chiefs in the final 5-2. Bill Cameron Jr. of Beardy’s took home the MVP trophy.

Elsewhere, Poundmaker 2 took first in the masters division. Shawn Opikokew was selected as the MVP.

The Battle River Hawks earned first in the midget side of things. Boston Bird was named MVP of the midget division.

In addition to hockey, a volleyball tournament and an eight-ball billiards event also ran in association with the Lawrence Weenie Cup.
