Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Chief Bobby Cameron says he is running for re-election.

Chief Cameron made the formal announcement at the FSIN head office in Saskatoon on Friday morning.

“We still have a lot of work ahead of us,” said Cameron. “Some good constructive work has happened in the past, but more work needs to be done when it comes to inherent and treaty rights.”

If re-elected, Cameron gave a list of things he would continue to work toward, including a quest for more funding for post-secondary education, improvements to infrastructure in Fond-du-Lac and funding for a mental health facility for the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. The FSIN election is coming up in October. There’s no word yet if anyone will be running against him.

In the meantime, Cameron also announced that they are 95 per cent sure Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be attending the upcoming FSIN Chiefs Assembly in May.

The chief says this is the first time a sitting prime minister will have attended a Chiefs Assembly.

“It is significant, because this has never happened for our organization in our history,” he said. “It shows they are committed.”
