The Prince Albert Police Service is among the many law enforcement agencies willing to accept guns, this next month, with no questions asked.

Police agencies across the province are planning a province-wide gun amnesty in March. They hope this initiative will help improve public safety.

The Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police is one of the agencies spearheading this and they are encouraging residents who have unwanted firearms to turn them into their local law enforcement agencies.

In a media release from Prince Albert police, they ask the public to call them if interested.

Police Service members will then come and pick up the weapon to safely transport and dispose of them. Police are asking people who wish to participate in the program to not attempt to transport the weapon themselves.

The program, which runs from March 29 to April 27, is similar to a gun amnesty offered by the Regina Police Service last year.

Regina police took in 157 firearms over the course of two weeks.
