Former treaty negotiator, Tom Molloy, will be sworn in as the province’s new lieutenant governor in a ceremony at the legislature on March 21.
Molloy previously served as the federal government’s head negotiator on Indigenous land claims and treaty settlements.
Officials with the federal government had previously credited the work of Molloy on Indigenous settlements and agreements to “have changed the face of the country.”
Molloy led negotiations in key treaties and agreements from B.C. to Newfoundland and Labrador. He also played a key role in establishing Nunavut as a territory in 1999.
Molloy will serve a minimum five-year term as the lieutenant governor.
The previous lieutenant governor, the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield, had held the office since 2012.
