Team North is sending around 70 athletes to compete at the upcoming Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford later in the month.

“They’re going to be facing the best competition in the province, so I think they’ll start getting excited once they hit the charter bus,” said Ryan Karakochuk, who is with Team North.

The northern zone features 54 communities. Athletes competing for Team North are coming from all over, including La Loche, Stony Rapids and Creighton. Officials say there’s one sport in particular that will be a strength for the north.

“We do have sensational cross-country skiers, so if there’s any sport that we plan to get some medals in, it’s cross-country skiing,” said Karakochuk.

The 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games begin in North Battleford on February 18, with things slated to conclude on February 24. If you would like more information on the games, you can check out its website.
