For the next three months, First Nations communities across Saskatchewan will have free access to advice from professional dietitians.

The Dietitians of Canada have partnered with the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch to launch the new Eat Well Saskatchewan program.

The pilot project will run until the end of March and will give First Nations the opportunity to call a call centre where dietitians will be waiting to answer their questions about nutrition and diet.

Organizers say the goal of the program is to increase access to information about healthy eating on First Nations.

“Many of the serious health-related challenges that people in our communities are facing can be prevented, treated and managed through food and nutrition,” said dietitian Danielle Switzer in a media release. “This call centre will allow us to reach more First Nations people and communities.”

The dietitian call centre will run from January 8 until March 29 and will be open 10:00 am until 4:00 pm on Monday through Friday.

Anyone interested or who has any dietary questions can call 1-833-782-7800 or email info@eatwellsask.ca.

Similar programs have been run in other provinces and organizers say the benefits have been numerous.
