The Silent No More walk, happening on Saturday in Prince Albert, will look to encourage women of all creeds to stand up and speak out.

Organizers of the walk were inspired by Metis artist and songwriter Andrea Menard to reclaim women’s sacredness by launching a social media campaign that will coincide with Saturday’s event. The organizers hope to spread their message with the hashtag #SilentNoMore.

The march is hoping to attract both Indigenous and non-Indigenous women and that feels the need to stand up and support women in the community.

“This is a walk for all women, it’s not just Indigenous women. Diversity is necessary but when it comes to certain issues a community can be stronger if we join our voices together,” says event organizer, Patricia Crowe. “This is basically letting women know that as a community and that with the support from their families and husbands or partners that they can affect change.”

The walk is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench and finish at City Hall.

Participants are invited to visit the Bison Cafe afterwards for coffee and discussion.
