A Saskatchewan man has been appointed to an interim board of directors for the National Council for Reconciliation.

On Thursday, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett announced the 6 person board, which includes Saskatchewan’s Max Fineday.

Fineday is a former University of Saskatchewan Students Union president, has worked for the AFN and is currently the Co-Executive Director for the Canadian Roots Exchange, an organization aimed at developing the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth.

Former Commissioner on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Wilton Littlechild, will chair the Interim Board. Other names included are Mike DeGagné, Clint Davis, Edith Cloutier, and Jean Teillet.

“I am very encouraged by this government’s move to establish an interim committee to work on the Council for Reconciliation,” said Wilton Littlechild in a media release. “True reconciliation requires all of us working together.”

The National Council for Reconciliation was created to help improve reconciliation efforts across Canada. The board will help guide that vision.

Over the course of the next six months, the Board members will engage with various stakeholders to recommend options for national council and the endowment of a National Reconciliation Trust.
