Aircraft from across western Canada were in La Ronge this weekend for an annual exercise organized by the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association.
An RCAF Hercules aircraft made a stop at the airport Sunday morning to train CASARA volunteers.
Two groups of people were taken on flights around the region to receive training and experience on how to be a spotter during an aerial search operation.
One of the organizers of the annual Sarex event is Paul Ricklefs of La Ronge.
He says part of the event also included a competition among pilots and spotters to find targets in the area.
“All around La Ronge and as far west at Beauval, down to Candle Lake there will be targets laid out on the ground or there will be an emergency locator transponder on the ground and we hone in on those signals.”
Ricklefs says members of the local Canadian Rangers group were also a part of the weekend events which will included simulated rescues from northern lakes.
