Pro MMA light heavyweight fighter Devon Smith of La Ronge is calling it a career after seven pro fights.

“It was something that, you know, I have been thinking about for a while,” said Smith. “It’s difficult having a full-time job and training, competing at that level of MMA. Especially now, after my daughter was born last year.”

Smith trained out of Lethbridge, Alberta, which meant many hours away from his family. He compiled a 3-4 record as a pro MMA fighter, but says there are several highlights during his career.

“I was able to capture two amateur title belts and I fought at the World Amateur Championships in Las Vegas, which was a pretty unique opportunity,” he said. “2015 was a big year for my pro career, winning three in a row in the first round and climbing up to the top ten in Canada in my division.”

Smith says he thinks he would like to stay involved in the sport of MMA in some capacity in the future.
