A strong outing in track and field wasn’t enough for Team Saskatchewan to win the overall title at the North American Indigenous Games in Toronto.

At the 2014 games in Regina, B.C. won 160 medals, which was just one more than Saskatchewan’s 159. This time around, B.C. won 179 medals, while Saskatchewan took home 166.

Track and field was where Team Saskatchewan won almost half of its medals. Distance races and athletics brought in 76 medals, with some outstanding individual performances from Dylan Bauman, who won six gold medals. Jaira Cross Child, also was no stranger to the podium, winning five gold medals.

Team Saskatchewan’s final medal totals were 64 gold, 54 silver and 46 bronze.
