SaskPower crews are working to get the lights back on in northwestern Saskatchewan after plow winds knocked down transmission lines.

Leanne Persicke with SaskPower said approximately 50 structures were damaged Thurday night which affects 2,300 customers in the Dillion, La Loche, Turnor Lake, Clearwater River and Garson Lake areas.

She said one of the challenges crews are facing is accessibility to the downed lines.

“There are lots of trees down, so it is taking a bit of time to get in there and get to fixing it,” she said. “We are trying to do this safely and quickly and recognize it is an inconvenience to our customers,” she said.

Persicke said additional crews from Meadow Lake, North Battleford and Saskatoon have been dispatched out to help with the situation, but power won’t be restored to communities north of Buffalo Narrows until Saturday due to the outage.
