A crackdown on illegal alcohol and bootlegging in the province’s north has resulted in numerous charges and the seizure of more than $8,000 worth of alcohol.
On June 29 and 30, members of the La Ronge, Stanley Mission, Southend and Melfort RCMP detachments conducted two days of enforcement on roads and highways around several northern communities targeting alcohol and traffic related offences.
Six people were arrested and charged with bootlegging related liqueur offences. More than 1,200 vehicles were checked during the two day blitz. RCMP say they will conduct similar initiatives in various northern communities throughout the year.
The primary objective is to stop the flow of alcohol destined for illegal resale in northern Saskatchewan communities
