RCMP say two men from the La Loche area are presumed to have drowned in a northern Saskatchewan lake.

The two unidentified boaters were reported overdue to the La Loche RCMP detachment at around 3 p.m. yesterday.

An hour later, civilian searchers located the body of one of the men in the water near Black Point.

Mounties say conditions on the lake were extremely windy with high waves at the time.

RCMP and civilian search teams located the body of the second man earlier today at about 7:45 a.m.

Clearwater River Dene Nation Chief Teddy Clark spoke about the incident on Facebook.

“It is with great sorrow that I express my deepest condolences to the Fontaine and Janvier family for the loss of their sons. May God be by your side always to comfort and give you strength at time like this,” he wrote.

“I would also like to say thank you to those who helped in the search and recovery efforts, you guys did and awesome job. It’s well appreciated,” he added.

The investigation is continuing with help from the Provincial Coroner’s Office.
