Prince Albert Police say Jarrod John Charles of St. Louis is their suspect in the abduction of a girl who was located on Tuesday night after disappearing from a Prince Albert playground earlier in the day.
An Amber Alert was triggered after an eight-year-old girl was observed leaving the Crescent Acres playground with a male following, and according to police the man grabbed her and put her into the back seat of his car before driving away. The girl was in the safe custody of police by 8:40 p.m.
Charles, 19, is now at large, wanted by police for the abduction. He’s described as a 19-year-old dark-skinned man with long shaggy hair. He was last seen wearing a dark ball cap, red shirt, and dark pants. Police say he was driving a 2002 black four-dour Chrysler Neon with a rear spoiler, and the vehicle left heading north on Olive Diefenbaker Drive after the girl was taken. The car has a Saskatchewan licence plate number 525 KQI.
Police ask people not to approach the suspect if they spot him, instead asking the public to contact Prince Albert police direction at 306-953-4222 if they have any information on the matter.
Charles has previously triggered an Amber Alert after he took two boys from the La Ronge area to his grandmother’s home in St. Louis on Sept. 28, 2016. The boys were found safe, and police said Charles had been on an undertaking not to have contact with children under the age of 16 at the time.
The abduction charges against Charles were later dropped, but he was found guilty of breaching the conditions of an undertaking and did not serve further prison time. He is already enrolled in the National Sex Offender Registry which is not available to the public. The RCMP website says the registry “is accessible to all accredited Canadian police agencies through a provincial/territorial registration centre.”
