An inmate at large who was arrested in Meadow Lake last week will never return to the jail he was originally housed in.

It’s been more than a year since Kelvin Aubichon, who Mounties say also goes by the name Dwayne Keith Aubichon, was granted a temporary absence permit from Buffalo Narrows Correctional Centre for travel over the Christmas holidays in 2015.

After he failed to return to custody, Aubichon was reported as a missing inmate.

Aubichon has been a wanted man since then, and the prison has since closed after a provincial budget cut in mid-2016.

The RCMP says last week, a public tip to police led to his arrest in a Meadow Lake home on 2nd Avenue West.

Aubichon now faces new charges for cocaine trafficking and for obstructing an officer. He remains in custody.
