*UPDATE – Loon Lake RCMP reported at 10 p.m. Friday that the incident had been resolved, and an adult male had been taken into custody.  Mounties advise there will continue to be a police presence in the area.

Schools on a northern Saskatchewan First Nation were in hold and secure mode earlier today because of a nearby standoff involving an armed male in a local residence.

Loon Lake RCMP say they received a report this morning that a male with a firearm entered a home on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

There are others in the residence, but Mounties don’t know the exact number of people inside.

The RCMP are asking the public to stay away from the area.

Makwa Sahgaiehcan has posted the following on its social media around 1 p.m., and as of 2:30 p.m. said things have not yet cleared up:

“EVERYBODY on the reservation to stay indoors until everything clears up for your own safety.
Parents do not let your kids leave home.
People with Vehicles please stay clear of driving through townsite.”

The band also asked people not to post anything related to police presence or locations.

As of 4:30 p.m. Friday, the incident was still ongoing.

But RCMP said arrangements had been made to get schoolchildren home safely.
