Kamsack RCMP had to respond to a complaint of a man brandishing a knife at the Chief Gabriel School on the Cote First Nation this morning.

S/Sgt. Greg Todd with the Kamsack detachment said the 19-year-old man was seen on the roof and had threatened to do harm to himself and taken into custody around 10:30 am without incident.

He says the man was taken to Kamsack Hospital for a mental health assessment with a police escort.

No staff or students were injured but for safety reasons, the school initiated its lock down procedures during the incident, which have since been lifted. RCMP say counsellors were being sent to the school to talk with staff and students about the incident.

RCMP say the man was not from the Cote First Nation but did have ties to the community.

The investigation continues.
