CN Rail has made a $500,000 donation to the Wanuskewin Heritage Park’s Thundering Ahead Campaign.

The company is the latest contributor to the fundraising drive to help renew the park.

In a prepared release, Wanuskewin Board Chair Candace Wasacase-Lafferty said, “This contribution will help us continue our efforts to preserve the ecology and biodiversity of the site, in addition to our many land-based educational programs.”

One part of the The Thundering Ahead Campaign will be an expansion of the land base to accommodate a small herd of Plains Bison.  The initiative will also introduce exhibit galleries and improve educational offerings, expand the current facility to accommodate larger conferences and meeting groups, renovate the 25-year-old interpretive centre and include an application for UNESCO World Heritage designation.

If successful, Wanuskewin would become just the 18th UNESCO site in Canada and first in Saskatchewan to receive the prestigious recognition.
