Two separate trials are set to go ahead for the 2015 death of Pelican Narrows teen.

Five men and two youths are accused of second-degree murder in Hilliard Sewap Jr.’s beating death, which the Crown prosecutor in the case says was a result of a severe concussion.

Sewap, 17, had been involved in a fight between two groups in Pelican Narrows that involved a chase, yelling, and some people carrying wood two by fours, said Crown prosecutor Fran Atkinson.

Robbie Custer, Cody Custer, Marcus Sewap, Brandon McCallum, and Trevor Charles will be tried separately from the two youths.

The youths are committed to a three-week October trial in Melfort Court of Queen’s Bench.

The five men have had their May trial rescheduled to start in early January of 2018. They have opted for trial by jury.
