La Ronge’s Amber Merriman will be playing football this season for the Saskatoon Valkyries of the Western Women’s Canadian Football League.
Merriman will be playing on the offensive line. Amber admits, she’s excited to start the season, but she is feeling a bit nervous.
“My first game is this weekend, don’t know if I’m going to be a benchwarmer or not, hoping not, but we’ll see,” said Merriman.
Merriman says she heard about the team and decided to give it a go.
“I’ve always liked throwing people around, so I thought I’d give it a try,” said Merriman. “Now, I actually have an excuse to throw people around.”
The Valkyries are scheduled to play their first game of the season on Saturday at home versus the Edmonton Storm. Since the league’s inception in 2011, Saskatoon has captured five championships.
