The band council on the Piapot First Nation, about 45 kilometres northeast of Regina, is following the lead set by youth on the First Nation.

The junior chief and council presented the band council with a resolution to ban drugs and alcohol on the First Nation. That resolution was passed yesterday.

Chief Jeremy Fourhorns says the band council will be walking with the student body tomorrow to celebrate and support the resolution during a sober walk, which will end at the school at noon.

He says there is a need to strengthen the community against drug and alcohol abuse, adding the resolution will provide youth with direction and opportunity to make this vision a reality.

The chief, all band council members, the school principal, staff and students will take part in tomorrow’s sober walk.
