There’s talk about a potential movie detailing the life of former Aboriginal NHL player Fred Sasakamoose of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.

Nothing has been set in stone yet, but Sasakamoose is scheduled to meet with people from Montreal to discuss a movie soon.

“Just going to listen and that’s it and what they are going to offer,” said Sasakamoose. “It’s surprising to me.”

Sasakamoose says if a movie is in fact made about him, he would like any proceeds he makes to go to kids.

“I wouldn’t want the money,” said Sasakamoose. “I’d just want it to – to leave it for the people, the younger people. Maybe the future generation of the Olympics.”

During the 1953-1954 NHL season, Sasakamoose played 11 games for the Chicago Blackhawks. He was the first Aboriginal hockey player to suit up for a game in the NHL.
