A well-known promoter and teacher of the Plains Cree culture has died.

Facebook postings have confirmed that Tyrone Tootoosis, who was 58, died at home on the weekend.

Tootoosis spent much of his time recording stories from Cree elders.

He was also an activist, actor and pow wow dancer, and had been involved with the FSIN Pow Wow from the start.

The wake for Tyrone Tootoosis begins this evening at the Poundmaker Veterans Hall.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at the Poundmaker First Nation, followed by a horse-drawn procession to the Tootoosis Family Burial Grounds.
