Saskatchewan’s education critic says it is important that the local voice not be lost as the province moves towards amalgamation and centralizing of services like health boards and school divisions.

Carla Beck is taking part in a fact finding mission in the north, meeting local representatives in a number of communities, including La Ronge.

She says she is there to learn and to be a more effective opposition member for the north.

“It’s really important that all the decision makers in Regina come up and talk to local people and really try to understand as much as you can on a one day trip,” she said. “And form those relationships, so you really know the context of those decisions that really impact communities.”

Social Services Critic, Nicole Rancourt and local Cumberland MLA Doyle Vermette are also taking part in the community meetings.

They will spend much of the day in La Ronge and will visit La Loche next weekend.
