The James Smith Cree Nation is hosting its first ever pride dance.

It is being organized by band councillor, Stephanie Constant and the James Smith Youth Action Council. Constant says there are so many gay and lesbian youth and they are being kept in the shadows.

She says the event is about being themselves and being proud of how they are. The event will take place February 25th.

Constant says if it is a success, a two or three-day pride event may be held this summer.

She says she was inspired to hold the event after the success of a pride walk held by the Beardy’s First Nation last year.
